We have had many verbal endorsements (and several written ones) of our sentiments concerning the abuse of witnesses by lawyers. The gentlemen of the bar will, we trust, save us further efforts in this direction by bridling their tongues a little. If they do not, we assure them that we shall rebuke them severely and open our columns to the witnesses assailed. This disgraceful and cowardly practice must stop.
Johnny Mehl admits that he ought to have a new and larger store house and a wife. Girls will remember that this is leap year.
Apropos of old relics, we have neglected to mention a Continental dollar now owned by Mr. Jacob Goss, near Marion Centre. It is a very pale, flimsy specimen of paper currency, poorly printed, dated 1776, and with an excellent motto inscribed on its face: “Mind your business.” Mr. Gross thinks the motto much more valuable than the money.
By kind invitation of “Uncle Will,” the entire Record corps partook of ice cream Tuesday afternoon at beautiful Billings Park. The day was delightful, and the cream delicious. Mr. Billings is fitting up the park nicely and will keep refreshments constantly on hand during the season. Marion Centre is pardonably proud of this beautiful, balmy park — the prettiest in the state.
