Sept. 22, 1876
Next week will be a lively one in Marion Centre. On Tuesday, the Republicans will elect 10 delegates to attend the county convention. On Wednesday, the first menagerie that has even visited out metropolis will parade through our spacious thoroughfares and exhibit twice to an immense throng doubtless. And on Thursday, a mammoth political menagerie will uncage itself in our midst. Forty delegates will furnish a meal for scores of political cannibals. Each of the latter will vie with the others in devouring those savory delegates. Whew! What a week of wonders.
A pigeon entered druggist Wand’s store from the rear Tuesday and flew directly through a 20x30 window pane in front, without apparent damage to the pigeon but with scatteration to the glass.
Our city school is rapidly filling up, and a pressing need for more rooms for the lodgment of students is already felt. Many wish to board themselves, and those of our citizens who can do so should tender accommodations. Even make some sacrifice to do this. And let your rental charges be just as moderate as possible. The interests of the town demand this.
