Marion-Florence board of education members started construction Thursday on a new gymnasium and indoor swimming pool complex for the district. Board members pictured breaking ground are Jan Helmer, Sarah Cope, Keith Collett, Rex Savage, Chris Sprowls, and Lyle Leppke. Board member Kathy Meierhoff was not present.

Defeating 11 other teams, Marion High School girls’ track team captured the Mid-Central Activities Association League title Friday with 114 points. It was a very good day for the Lady Warriors, coach Grant Thierolf said.
Robin Pritz of Lost Springs supported relief efforts for Greensburg by eating Thursday at Marion Pizza Hut. More than $140,000 was raised by participating Kansas Pizza Hut restaurants when all sales that day were given to the United Way fund to help Greensburg after a tornado.
Justin Garrard, son of John B. and Sandra Garrard of Antelope and a sophomore at Ottawa University, has broken three records for the Braves this season. He set records in the indoor 5,000-meter run, the outdoor 5,000-meter run, and the 10,000-meter run.
