Marion County Firefighters Association will be host for a family fireworks extravaganza at dusk Sept. 2 at Marion County Lake. The show will top off a long list of activities planned for the lake hall area on the west side of the lake.

Joe and Joann Nowak of rural Marion will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 20. They would appreciate hearing from friends and relatives as they celebrate this special occasion.

Brian Fruechting and Cody Wildin of Marion were chosen for the ninth annual 15-year-old Babe Ruth all-star classic Sunday held at Elkhart. Wildin and Fruechting were chosen as two of 18 players on the west team.

Sharon Kelsey and her sister, Margie Youk of New Orleans, are pictured as they display tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, and peppers grown in Gerald and Sharon Kelsey’s garden. Gerald grew the 1¾-to-2¼-pound tomatoes from seed.

Perry and Barbara Steiner of Marion will be hosts for a foreign exchange student. Ozan Unal of Isparta, Turkey, will arrive this month and attend Marion High School.

Marion City Library will sponsor a program about Laura Ingalls Wilder, “Home Builder of the Prairie,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the library. The public is invited.
