Poles are up, and slides are set. By the end of the week, new playground equipment at Central Park, Marion, should be ready for use. Collin Williams, Preston Schneider, and Tyler Makovec are pictured on the front page as they try out new slides.

Tampa State Bank will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Marion branch office with an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 11 featuring free hot dogs and fixin’s.

Marion Performing Arts Group will present its second annual variety night Saturday at Marion City Auditorium. Two short plays will be presented along with other musical and comedy acts. Actors include Rose Davidson, Doug Marler, Pam Varenhorst, and Jami Williams.

Volunteers are needed Saturday to help with the sixth annual Marion Reservoir Cleanup Day. Gloves, trash bags, and refreshments will be provided.

Organizers of Chingawassa Days have declared 2008 “The Year of Gene” in honor of Gene Winkler, who retired from the committee after the 2007 festival. Winkler served on the committee for 10 years, including terms as chairman and co-chairman.
