Marion Chamber of Commerce’s retail sales committee will sponsor Friday Night Fever from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11. Participating businesses will have special shopping promotions. Marion City Library will show a movie at dusk.
All Marion County residents are being invited to a welcome home reception for Ryan Newell, husband of Carrie (Wunderlick) Newell of Marion, from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Marion VFW post.
Pictured is Megan Schmidt, a 2008 graduate of Marion High School, who recently cut her hair to donate it to Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering illnesses that result in long-term medical hair loss.
Lawrence and Traci Lanning and family will welcome Emil Schramm of Munich, Germany, who will arrive in August and attend Marion High School for the coming school year. Mike and Joyce Eurit and family will welcome Mats Johannessen of Larvik, Norway, who also will arrive in August and attend MHS for the coming year.
Centre High School is 50 years old and has undergone several expansions since it was built in 1958. Pictures in this issue show the 1993 addition of a second gymnasium, classrooms, and library for fifth and sixth grades; a 1998 addition of music and special education rooms; and a 1992 addition of a machine shop and greenhouse.
