The weather was nearly perfect and shoppers enthusiastic as thousands of people descended Saturday on Marion’s Central Park for the annual Art in the Park and Craft Show.

Tonya (Johnson) Hodson, a 1986 Marion High School graduate, with three teammates recently won a coveted first-place trophy at the 37th annual National Stearman Fly-in at Galesburg, Illinois. The foursome won the four-ship formation championship by making various maneuvers in unison while in flight.

“Marion Reservoir: 40 Years of Fun,” will be the theme Saturday of the 97th annual Old Settlers Day parade.

MHS seniors Elliot Hett and Camille Christensen were named fall homecoming king and queen Friday before Marion’s victory over Nickerson.

Harry Bennett of Marion is one of 10 Kansans selected to take part in May in an exchange program with 10 delegates from Japan. Bennett will represent the Kansas Organic Producers Association and the Kansas Rural Center. Tem Kansans and 10 Japanese will join in late spring for reciprocal fact-finding visits between the two countries.

The second annual Marion County Lake chili cook-off will be 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 4 near the lake hall. People will purchase kits to sample the chili and vote for their favorites.
