Winter won’t officially begin until Sunday, but Mother Nature has other ideas. Between three and five inches of snow fell Monday night and Tuesday in Marion County. Most Marion County residents awoke Monday morning to frosty temperatures of zero to three degrees.

On Dec. 29, St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary Shoppe will celebrate its third year. Profits have allowed purchase of a number of items for St. Luke Hospital and Living Center.

Nine-year-old Grace Peterson of Lincolnville and her 2-year-old niece, Emma Carson, are pictured on the front page as they talk to Santa Claus during his appearance at Lincolnville Community Center. Emma asked Santa for a puppy.

The Marion boys and girls basketball teams fell Saturday to the Warriors of Berean Academy in the final round of the first Marion Classic championships at the Sports and Aquatics Center.

Senior Julia Zeiner averaged 19 points per game. She and her teammates finished as runners-up.

Senior Elliot Hett averaged 7.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He and the Marion Warriors also were runners-up in the tournament.
