At the 38th annual meeting of St. Luke Hospital and Living Center Auxiliary at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, attendees were told the auxiliary thrift shop had made a profit of more than $34,000 this past year.

Fifth grade student Zach Fruechting was crowned Jan. 10 as Marion Elementary School’s spelling bee champion. Zach will compete Feb. 11 in a county spelling bee. Runner-up fourth grader Tori Smith also will compete.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, a series of love stories have been planned by staff writer Adam Stewart. Featured this week are June and Lois Jost of Marion, who have been married for more than 70 years.

Thirty Cub and Tiger scouts raced and displayed their cars Sunday in Pack 102’s Pinewood Derby. Matthew Christensen won, Tristan Armstrong finished second, and Luke Lanning placed third in the Tiger competition. Cub winners were Zachary Fruechting, first, Janson Garman, second, and Riley Hake, third. Fruechting received a best-design trophy, and Austin Molleker won a most-unique trophy for his Wienermobile.
