Three storm cells moved through the county Sunday evening. Michele Abbott, Marion County emergency manager, said widespread damage included 20 buildings with roofs gone, some partially collapsed. The list of damaged properties is long and includes primarily out buildings and trees with some houses and vehicles.

An early morning fire Thursday at 216 N. Roosevelt St., Marion, resulted in a vacant home being a total loss.

Lake residents and passersby have expressed disappointment that the former Kingfisher Steakhouse and Lounge at Marion County Lake is being converted into a private residence instead a restaurant.

A feature article is about the late John Hybsha, retired firefighter at Newton, who spent his life doing things for others. Hybsha and Leroy Schmidt of Goessel owned and operated Osage Mule Co., which provided horse-drawn covered wagon rides and demonstrations of early horse-powered machinery.
