Newly elected city council members Chris Meierhoff and Jerry Kline and re-elected mayor Mary Olson took their oaths of office at Monday’s city council meeting.

Marion High School graduate Jessica Vogel will perform with the Washburn Wind Ensemble in a special concert April 28 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

The performance will include the world premiere of a work by composer Brian Balmages that was commissioned as a tribute to the legacy of retired Senator Bob Dole.

Florence’s annual Spring Fling will be Sunday, rain or shine, in the gym on Dean St. in Florence. The event will feature fun, food, and music sponsored by the Florence Labor Day committee. Proceeds will help pay for Florence’s annual Labor Day celebration.

Winner of Marion Cub Scouts’ annual Pinewood Derby this Sunday was Matthew Christensen. Cooper Garmin placed second, and Blake Gormley, third. Winner in the Tiger (younger) Cub division was Dylan Cooper. Tyler Boudreaux was second, and Todd Palic, third.
