Plans are being made for an annual Thanksgiving dinner noon to 1:30 p.m. at Marion Middle / High School commons. Marion Ministerial Alliance sponsors the event with assistance from community volunteers.
Peabody Main Street Association is offering a $200 top prize in a talent show Oct. 31 at Peabody American Legion. The event will be the final act in the third annual Sleepy Creek Concert Series sponsored by the organization.
Marion High School students Patrick Hodson and Dane Purkeypile have been named commended students in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship program. Commended students placed among the top 5% of the more than 1.5 million students nationwide who entered the competition.
Tom Duggan of Tampa recently participated as a Marion County delegate in the 28th annual Kansas Silver-Haired Legislature.
Junior Cole Lewman is the Marion County Record’s Marion High School athlete of the week. Lewman had two receptions and a touchdown against Hutchinson Trinity. He leapt above a defender to secure a 34-yard touchdown catch in the end zone for the Warriors’ only score.
Members of the Collett, Hayen, and Umberger families had a three-day reunion Sept. 24 through 26 in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Colletts coming to the Middle Creek area from London via Quebec.
