A crew of workers braved cold weather this week to install Christmas lights on the tops of buildings in downtown Marion. The lighting project was spearheaded by the Christmas Decorating Committee of the Chamber of Commerce.

Eight foreign students from the University of Kansas visited Burns for Thanksgiving this year through the Homestay Program. This is the 33rd year that the community has welcomed students through the program. The hosts added a new dot to the map marking the homeland of the more than an estimated 430 students visitors when Begam Nilufar Anam of Bangladesh wrote a greeting in her native language.

Virgil Litke has written a book, “A Journey With My Grandfather.” The book tells the life story of his grandfather, Jacob W. Buller, founder of Buller Coupler Company of Hillsboro.

Ruby Patton’s hand-painted porcelain Christmas ornament is among those now on display in the “Smithsonian Christmas Tree” exhibition sponsored by the Wichita Art Association. The ornament was selected by members of the National Society of Tole and Decorative Painters for the Smithsonian Institution’s exhibit in Washington, D.C.

Mark Meisinger of Marion’s Happy Hustlers 4-H Club and Denise Sellers of Florence’s Jayhawk Club will attend the National 4-H Congress in Chicago next week. Both are juniors at Marion High School.

Bennie Holtsclaw will have the program at the Dec. 6 meeting of the Chat and Dine Club of Marion County Lake.
