Jerry Cady was present at the Jan. 3 meeting of Marion City Council to request a $5,000 grant to Marion Chamber of Commerce to buy plastic bags and folders containing materials promoting Marion.

Colleen Hajek of Marion has qualified as a Mary Kay team manager and earned the free use of a red Pontiac Grand Am presented to her by Mary Kay Cosmetics officials Saturday at Irv Schroeder County Motors in Hillsboro. Members of her team include Suzy Lueker. Linda Brewer, Darla Gore, Sandra Shaw, Sadie Anderson, and Sandy Stucky.

Leon Suderman was sworn in as a Marion County commissioner Monday by Judge Michael Powers. This begins Suderman’s third term as commissioner representing the First District.

Among the students recognized for scholarship during the fall semester at Emporia State University were Tamara Sue Svitak of Lincolnville, Jennifer Renee Branson of Marion, Leann Dawn Hiebert of Marion, Denise Meierhoff of Marion, Lesley Sieger of Marion, and Ralden Thomas of Peabody.

Thies Tax and Accounting of Marion has been sold to Jim Labelle of Wichita. Jim’s Accounting and Tax Service now operates at the same location, 104 N. 5th St.
