Marion City Commission approved a conditional deed and lease agreement Monday with the Marion-Florence school district for an outdoor swimming pool that will pave the way for new facilities. Voters within the school district will have an opportunity to approve construction of a new outdoor pool, indoor pool, gymnasium, and auditorium.

A new store is opening in downtown Marion. The thrift store will be owned and operated by St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary and will be called St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shoppe.

Dentist Eugene Vinduska was surprised Dec. 4 with a party in honor of his 75th birthday. His children were hosts for the party in the basement of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.

Newton residents Larry and Barbara Smith plan to open Country Lakes Café on Jan. 3 at 216 E. Main St., Marion. The Smiths have been visiting Marion County Lake for the past 20 years and will be making Marion their home. The restaurant will offer sandwiches and meals in the evening.
