Revelers ushered in the New Year at Marion’s annual ball drop and fireworks display Saturday night on S. 3rd St.

The opening Friday afternoon of St. Luke Thrift Shoppe at 404 E. Main St., Marion, is a dream come true for St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary. All profits will benefit the hospital and Marion County Hospital District No. 1.

Card showers were being requested honoring the 80th birthdays of Lorene Smith, Lincolnville, and Betty Childs, Hutchinson.

After completing business Friday to close the books on 2005, Marion County commissioner Dan Holub asked fellow commissioners to consider a public meeting to set goals for the new year. He particularly wants to invite those who opposed casino development to come forward and talk about their plans for other development and other matters important to the general public.

Engagements in this issue are those of Jessica Lynn Davis and Derek Lynn Ewer and Julie Nicole Blanco and Mark Lloyd Pagenkopf II. Both weddings are planned for June.

Among area students receiving scholarships at Kansas State University are Brian Bina, Carla Carlson, Kelsey Craig, Marlene Goentzel, Andrew Holt, Tambra Johnson, Maggie Powers, Allison Smith, and Amy Tajchman, all of Marion.
