Service awards were presented at the conclusion of a school board meeting Monday to Gary Stuchlik, Ken Arnhold, and Phoebe Janzen, 10 years; Ginger Becker, 15 years; Dick Maggard, 20 years; and Bob Good, Margie Nienstedt, Jim Versch, and Shari Padgham, 25 years. Versch also received a University of Kansas award for 25 years of service to education.

Luke Gordon is this week’s Marion County Record athlete of the week. Gordon excelled in two sports this past week — in the high jump at a Hillsboro invitational track meet May 1 and at the Marion golf invitational May 2 and Marion / Hillsboro golf tourney May 10.

Engagements announced in this issue are those of Andrea Luna and Patrick Kenneally, who are planning a wedding in October, and Julia Ann Sellers and Phillip John Vaske, who will be married June 10.

Seniors Clayton Garnica and Katelyn Whitaker have been named students of the month at Marion High School. Both are involved in many activities in and outside of the school. Their parents are Laura Legg and Neal and Kathy Whitaker.

A reception Monday at the courthouse honored David Brazil, who is leaving the county’s employ to be Cowley County’s public health administrator.
