Marion Chamber of Commerce has announced the names of the winners in the annual Christmas art contest for children. Theme of the contest was “Christmas Past, Christmas Future.” Winners were as follows: pre-school through kindergarten Nicolle Longhofer, first, Paul Wilcox, second; first through third grades Morgan Hett, first, Jesse Versch, second, Steffanie Smith, third, Lacey Kimbrough, fourth; fourth through sixth grades Todd Winter, first, Brad Druse, second, Josh Inlow, third, Karen Klose, fourth.

Karen Denise Sellers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sellers of Florence, was recognized at the Department of Horticulture awards banquet at Kansas State University in Manhattan. A freshman in horticulture therapy, she was recognized as the winner of the Filinger Scholarship.

Births announced this week included Kristen Elaine Whitehair, daughter of JoEllen and Brian Whitehair of Wichita; Kristina Leigh, daughter of Scott and Dianne Behney of Olathe; Jessica Lynn, daughter of Gayla and Jeff Deines of Ramona; and Ryan Ralph, son of Randall and Ramona Richmond of Marion.

Brian Loomis, son of Larry and Randee Loomis, and David Rowe, son of Norman and Beth Rowe, sixth graders at Marion Elementary School, have been invited to spend a week at the Cosmosphere Space Camp at Hutchinson. They received their confirmation letters last week.
