Board members are busy making plans to remodel the old Santa Fe train station in Marion into a community recreation center of the youngsters of Marion and Florence. The city is purchasing the land south of the courthouse and Lynn Christensen is donating the building.
Theresa Ann Kroupa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa, and Mark Leo Jirak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jirak of Tampa, were married Nov. 29 in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.
In spite of unseasonably cold weather, Park Ranger Terry Holt says a small group of dedicated fishermen have taking advantage of ice fishing to fill their freezers with tasty bass and panfish.
Employees of A.L. Duckwall’s Store enjoyed a Christmas party Sunday evening at the Crown-Uptown dinner-theatre in Wichita.
Dick Maggard of Marion has been hired part-time to work for the Marion Unified School District. Maggard will help with building maintenance and serve as a substitute bus driver and custodian.
Dedicated Marion golfers who like to play all year round have come up with a way to “winterize” their golf carts. To make the rounds more bearable in cold weather, Harold Keazer and Al Bernhardt have installed Plexiglas windbreaks in the rear and sides of their gas-powered carts.
