Mrs. Alvin Loveless of Lincolnville is the winner of the first prize awarded in this year’s Marion County Record subscription contest. Her prize is a $100 certificate good in any store that advertises in the newspaper. Second prize, a $75 gift certificate, goes to Melvin Jewett. Third, a $50 certificate was won by Dola Meierhoff and the fourth prize, a $25 certificate, goes to Edmund Kroupa.

The popular Don Kile of Emporia will be the featured entertainer at the New Year’s Eve celebration at Marion Country Club.

Marion Chamber of Commerce ambassadors are pictured welcoming Bob Gooding, who has recently opened an archery pro shop and shooting range at 316 Grant. Presenting the first dollar of clear profit to the veteran bow hunter are Bud Hannaford and Marlin Buchholz.

Craig Brock received the “Best of Show” ribbon from art instructor Jim Versch on Thursday during the Marion High School Winter Art Show. Brock used watercolors and an airbrush to paint his view of a Lamborghini RSM sports car.

Inez Bevan, of Lost Springs, as a 13-year-old girl, saw a bright star with a tail on it. She wondered what it was. The next day she and her family learned it was Halley’s Comet. Seventy-five years have now passed and she is hoping she will again get see the famous comet.
