People in Marion were thankful the past week for their flood-control dike. Between four and six inches of rain fell around Marion County. Flooding water was diverted around the town by the dike with water eventually filling the entire one-mile stretch of flat land west of Marion and further south. Some areas report water as the highest it had been since the 1951 flood.

Bill Meyer, editor of the Marion County Record, was elected to the Kansas State Historical Society board of directors at the society’s annual meeting Tuesday in Topeka.
Lisa, 22-month-old daughter of Gary and Paula Loveless of Marion, was one of the winners in the recent March of Dimes Baby Pageant in Wichita Lisa won fifth place overall and was selected first in the beauty judging in her age group
Jay Sandwell, son of Margie and Kenny Sandwell, has enlisted in the United States Air force. He will leave Nov. 1 for basic training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas.
MHS Warriors of the Week are cross-country runner Troy Thrasher, volleyball player Sheri Plenert, and football defensive tackle and offensive guard Joe Bolte.
