The Hillside Addition became the focus for most of the three-hour-long meeting of Marion City Commissioners Monday afternoon. Commissioners were busy with matters concerning a street paving project in the residential addition, and with prospects of looping a water main there.

Members of the hospital board, staff, and friends surprised Albert Klenda Thursday evening with a recognition dinner at Kingfisher’s Inn. Klenda served 17 years on the board and was president most of the time.
Produce Derby entries this week come from Jim Cogdill and Jack Highsmith. Jim’s cucumbers, up to 27” long, come from “fantastic” seed he purchased as a novelty. Jack’s whopper of a tomato tipped the scales at 1.63 pounds.
Michelle Thole of Marion attended the national conference of the Future Farmers of America held recently in Washington. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Thole of Marion. A highlight of the week for Michelle was the opportunity to visit with Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas, majority leader of the U.S. Senate.
Marine Colonel Richard Schwartz, who formerly lived at Marion, has been named Chief of Staff of the 4th Marine Division.
