The centennial celebration of Bethel School, Marion County District 8, will be held Sunday afternoon at the schoolhouse, located 5½ miles east of Lincolnville. Former students, teachers, residents of the community, and the general public are invited to attend.

The Mike Connell family is hosting Swedish foreign student, Victoria Pettersson, who will be staying with them for the next year and attending Marion High School as a junior.

The summer reading program at Marion City Library came to an end July 26. Forty children participated in the session with Catherine Blount, winning reader, receiving The Wild Swans by Hans Christian Andersen as her prize. Blount had 169 books to her credit.

Three Marion women participated in the ladies invitational golf tournament at Herington Country Club Aug. 20. Elora Robinson was medalist and also was awarded the prize for having the longest drive. Other Marion golfers entered were Sadie Bernhardt and Joyce Smith.

Four new teachers have joined Marion Unified School District this year. They are Kim Kindle, kindergarten; Richard Bell, vocal music; Jerry L. Smith, Florence 7th and 8th grade social studies; and Mark Worcester, vocational agriculture.
