Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6958 presents annual awards, from bingo funds, to Marion County high school students who intend to further their education. Frank Holub presented a $400 check to Joseph Neal Hockensmith of Florence Friday night and a $150 check to Kay Grossnickle of Peabody.

The Aulne Boys and Kari’s Karavan will be featured at the Farm Bureau Arena free shows on the midway at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. Kari’s Karavan will perform Sept. 14 and the Aulne Boys on Sept. 15 following the Sunday morning worship service at the outdoor arena.

Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Klose returned Aug. 26 from a 19-day tour of Europe. They visited England, Belgium, West Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and France.

With temperatures in the 90s Monday, Florence’s Labor Day celebration remained as popular as ever. A crowd of about 1,500 people lined Main Street for the annual parade.

The Marion County Record has served this community since 1868 and will begin her 117th year September 24, 1985.

About 130 persons attended the 100th anniversary of Bethel School. Dr. Nancy Groneman, professor at Emporia State University, and her sister, Vida Gianakon, organized and hosted the reunion.
