County Appraiser Max Hayen and county commissioner Lucille Britain were flown to Mississippi Tuesday on a complimentary trip to research a professional appraisal company that offered to aid in the county’s reappraisal.
John Burke, superintendent of Marion Unified School District, reports the district, this year, followed a general trend of fewer students. The district’s total head count dropped four students from 582 last year to 578 this year.
The gazebo, newest addition to Central Park, proved to be popular during the afternoon program on Old Settlers’ Day. Mayor Peggy Blackman and commissioner Larry Loomis dedicated the structure. A plaque will be installed with names of contributors.
Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Theresa Ann, to Mark Leo Jirak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jirak of Tampa. A Nov. 29 wedding is planned.
Joan Vinduska, a junior at Marion High School, was crowned FFA Chapter Sweetheart Friday night at half time of the Marion-Chase County football game. Her escort was Ryan Walker.
At Durham Wednesday evening, the air was filled with the aroma of frying fish. The seniors were having a fish dinner, thanks to local fisherman, Bill Harmon, who provided 25 pounds of fish for the meal.
