The outbreak of hard or red measles during the first weeks in January in nearby Harvey County is causing some concern among local health and school officials. To prevent the spread of the communicable diseases Marion County Nurse Grace Utting, R.N., urges parents to ensure their children have immunization shots.
A large group of hungry people crowded Marion Senior Center Friday to enjoy a community supper. The supper and craft sale benefited the senior citizens’ organization.
Marion Kiwanians enjoyed a presentation of slides Monday noon, covering the unusual subject of covered bridges. “Span Across Time” was the topic of the program given by Lloyd and Ellen Darrow. The Darrows shared photos of various covered bridges they have seen on their travels across the nation.
Florence Elementary School’s top spellers will compete later this year in the Marion County Spelling Bee. Eighth graders who will take part in the building-wide spell-off are Denise Meierhoff, Christine Laue, Lorie Plenert, Tara Abbott, Denice Winter, Chris Smith, Phil Humphries, Brenda Bina, Kristy Herbal, Jennifer Thole, Reyes Martinez, and Eric Steward.
Marion area Girl Scouts announce this week that they will no longer be collecting newspapers. The market has dwindled and it does not pay to collect the papers.
