Marion County commissioners said “no” to two department heads Monday who asked for extra financial support. “The county is going into a period of austerity,” Commissioner Lucille Britain announced.

Earl Hurst, who is purchasing the city-owned community antenna system, says he plans to replace much of the old city cable equipment and plans to boost the number of channels he offers subscribers up by four to 15.

During a public meeting Monday night, the majority of residents at Marion County Lake appeared to favor a plan to build a sewer system. An estimated 100 property owners filled the lake recreation building to hear officials of Marion County Improvement District 2 present the proposal.

Two juniors at Centre High School have been selected to be delegates to the 1986 session of Sunflower Girls’ State. They are Jennifer Hanschu, daughter of Junior and Jeannette Hanschu of Ramona, and Tana Hedstrom, daughter of Bruce and Alona Hedstrom of Lost Springs.

Brownie Troop 64 has been meeting each Tuesday at Valley United Methodist Church. Troop members are Kay Leah May, Angela Markley, Amber Rogers, Brett Lynn Sardou, Caren Lemons, Catie Varenhorst, Kim Hajek, Gabrielle Longhofer, Tara Barnett, Jessica Ash, Jodi Thomas, Jodi Smith, Rebecca Collett, Rachel Janzen, and Natalie Thies.

A rural Hillsboro grain and livestock farmer, Leon Suderman, announced Monday he is running for a position on the Marion County Commission.
