Marion Chamber of Commerce is planning a “Harvest Moon Festival” on Aug. 9. The festival will include a water ski show Friday evening at Marion County Lake, followed by a sidewalk sale in downtown Marion the next morning.

Kerns Allen will return to his hometown July 5 when he will be the featured speaker at the banquet of the Marion County Chapter of Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship. The event will be Saturday in the banquet room of the Owl Car Café.

With harvest heading into its third week for farmers in the Marion area, local elevators report it nearly completed. Poor yields, poor test weights, and poor prices are all commonalities among county grain elevators.

Brad Wildin, owner of The County Seat, is pictured showing Connie Bernhardt of Marion how to use the remote control for a new 25-inch Zenith television which she won in a contest. Bernhardt signed up at the store’s booth at Marion’s Spring Fair and won second prize in a statewide drawing held by Zenith Distribution Midstates of Wichita.

Members of the Cottonwood Valley Saddlehorse Association recently made numerous improvements at their building on Stadium Road in Marion. Interior walls have been removed, creating a large dance floor in one corner of the building. A stage will be used by musicians while entertaining at public dances and private parties. The club’s first dance of the season will feature KFDI’s Ranch House Swing Band on Saturday.
