Marion Municipal Auditorium is 50 years old. It was completed in 1935 and has served public needs for half a century. Indy Dambro, president of Theater-Tech at Emporia, presented commissioners with a comprehensive and exhaustive study Monday concerning improvements to the auditorium. Commissioners were impressed by his study and proposals, which were presented without cost. They thanked him and said they would consult with him later. No action was taken.
Some old soldiers don’t fade away. A number got together at breakfast Wednesday and observed the 40th anniversary of V-J Day. Veterans attending included Ed Sandwell, Bob Hoover, Melvin Jewett, Ed Costello, Harry Klose, Lawrence Gilbert, Al Bernhardt, Lou Vinduska, Ray Vinduska, Cy Goertz, Ken Robinson, John Britain, and Bill Meyer.
David Hendricks of rural Durham has received a letter of commendation from officials of the St. Louis Southwestern Railway for actions following the derailment of a trail April 27 near his home.
Bob Smith was honored for 10 years of safe driving Saturday at the 13th annual safe driver awards banquet sponsored by Western Auto Distribution Center.
