Harold Just of Hillsboro is to be credited for preserving the brick streets in Marion. Just, who works with Walters Construction, has spent the past five or six weeks scraping mud and asphalt from hundreds of the red “Buffalo Blocks” so they can be reused in the new storm sewer project. Just estimates he cleans about 200 to 400 bricks per day.

Two flyers from this area, George Baxter of Marion and Norman Clothier of Florence, will be honored as charter members of the Kansas Flying Farmers, when members meet Friday at the Hutchinson Municipal Airport. The special fly-in will mark the beginning of the 40th year of the organization.

Bill Holmes was honored Wednesday morning in recognition of his 35 years with Duckwall’s. Local employees held a party in honor of the occasion and Duckwall’s district manager was present. He presented Holmes with a pewter coffee service encrusted with three diamonds and the company logo.

Marion High School junior April Ogden earned enough points by herself this weekend at the state high school track meet in Wichita to place Marion 12th in the state out of 64 Class 3A schools.
