Senator Nancy Kassebaum spent an hour campaigning in Marion Monday morning after spending the night at her ranch home near Burdick. The petite senator often has been mentioned in the national press as a likely candidate for president or vice president in 1988.
Exchange student, 17-year-old Geoffroy Chatillon of Paris, France, is spending four weeks with his host family, Valentine and Julie Klenda and children in the Pilsen community.
Construction on the custom-designed playground equipment for Central Park started July 11. Tom Unruh and Kenton Wiens of Creative Designs in Newton said the work should be completed in three weeks.
Marion’s Senior Babe Ruth baseball team finished regular season play Monday with a 6-2 win over Hillsboro. They ended the summer with a 13-1 record, claiming the Cottonwood Valley League championship. Team members are Bill Shirley, Mike Kelsey, Darryl Herbel, Jeff Riffel, Kirk Wyatt, player-coach Jeff Burkholder, Jayson Hanschu, Clay Tajchman, Chris Webb, Craig Mueller, and Mike Bina. Junior Hanschu is assistant coach.
