Heavy equipment operators are piling up mountains of dirt north of Walnut Street while building the tall approaches for the new U.S. 56 bridge to be built over Luta Creek.

Marion Chamber of Commerce has scheduled the annual Farm-City Week steak fry for Nov. 14. Matthew Classen has volunteered to serve as committee chairman.

Marion youngsters may tour a haunted house and take part in a decorating contest this Halloween. High school students will turn The Depot youth center into a haunted house on Oct. 31.

Births announced in this issue are those of Chapin Joseph, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holub of Marion, and Leann Carol, daughter of Tom and Patti Thomas of Marion.

Tera Jo Stultz, daughter of John and Barb Stultz of McPherson, formerly of Marion, was selected as “poster child” for the March of Dimes. Her father is Kansas Highway Patrol sergeant for this area. Her mother is the former Barbara Hunt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hunt of Marion.

Members of the flag drill team at MHS are Dena Connell, Robin Summervill, Vicky Kay Hartley, Charlotte Thies, Diane Vantuyl, Jennifer McLain, and Sheri Plenert.
