Scully Estates is offering to tenants an opportunity to purchase the property they have been leasing. This is the first time the agricultural land renting organization, which owns an estimated 40,000 acres in Marion County, has made this kind of offer, said Forrest L. Smith, manager of the Scully office in Marion.

Marion County Sheriff Mike Childs sustained serious injuries Dec. 30 during an automobile collision which he said was caused by a prisoner trying to escape while being transported. Childs suffered a badly broken leg and struck his head against the windshield when the patrol car struck a grain truck. Despite his injuries, the sheriff prevented his prisoner, a suspected rapist, from escaping.

Births announced in this issue included: Andrea Lynn, daughter of Peggy and Lynn Kleiber of Ramona, born Dec. 19; Dale Eugene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Vogel of Marion, born Dec. 30; and Eric Michael, son of Barb and Perry Steiner, born Dec. 30.

Retiring Marion County Commissioner Harold Jost received a plaque from the county road crew Monday in thanks for his eight and one-half years of service. Jost will be replaced by Leon Suderman, who is scheduled to be sworn in Monday at the courthouse.
