The Aulne community will celebrate its centennial on July 5, the Sunday following the Independence Day holiday. The anniversary observation will be held in the lot of Aulne United Methodist Church.

The double ring marriage vows of Michele Renee Costello and William Edward Lundy were solemnized May 30 in St. Mark Catholic Church

Birth announcements in this issue include the following: a daughter, Ashley Paige, born June 2 to Stacy and Joni Smith of Lisle, Ill.; a son, Ryan James, born June 4 to James and Lesley Zickefoose of Young, New South Wales, Australia; and a son, Daniel Michael, born June 6 to Michael and Jill Meysing of Fredonia.

Mary Margaret Vervynck plays the organ at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Burns and is featured this week in the newspaper’s “Organist Series.” Vervynck has provided music at the church for nearly a half century.

Garry Klose, commander-elect of Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW Post 6958, is pictured presenting two scholarships to Centre High School graduates. Gary Stuchlik received $300 and Jennifer Hanschu received $600, profits from bingo games at the post home.

Members of the Marion Kiwanis Club will need to decide whether to instruct their delegate to the international convention to favor allowing women into membership of the organization. The decision will be made in July at the Kiwanis International Convention in Washington, D.C. Delegates from local clubs will vote on the proposal at that time.
