Marion County Commission went on a buying spree Monday, making purchases with an eye for quality rather than merely low bids. Faced with an Oct. 15 deadline to commit its remaining federal Revenue Sharing Funds, the commission voted unanimously to buy some major equipment.
Two faithful and dependable fixtures of the Marion County Record completed their service this week when Monty Avery turned off the gas to the linotype and hung up his printer’s apron. All commercial printing of the future will be by the electronic-offset method rather than the hot lead of a linotype, and Monty Avery won’t be doing it. He has retired after nearly 45 years of service.
Western Associates hosted a meeting Friday and Saturday for sales representatives from several states. They enjoyed golfing at Marion Country Club, a beef barbecue, shopping, touring places of interest in Marion, listening to talks of sales techniques, and viewing new products.
