A crew from Rhoades Construction Co. is tearing up South Third Street in preparation for a new overlay. The former brick street was stripped of asphalt before the old bricks were dug out.

Ruth Anderson and Alberta Winter, longtime employees at Marion Manor, were awarded pins Thursday for service of 16 and 19 years, respectively. Another 21 employees received pins for a combined total of 226 years of service in Marion.

Cheerleaders at Marion High School for the 1988-89 season are Amy Linnens, Vicki Kay Hartley, Sara Lou Mills, Anne Goering, and Kelli Hajek.

The former Axtell Christian Hospital at Newton will close Sept. 6 when all services of the newly combined Newton Medical Center will be located at the former Bethel Deaconess Hospital facility.
