The community of Pilsen, located nine miles north of Marion, was settled by Bohemian immigrants more than 100 years ago. It will celebrate its centennial with a public observance on Saturday and Sunday. The centennial is being celebrated this year because the first church structure in the community was completed in 1888.

Families of so-called “orphan train” children will hold a reunion from Friday through Sunday in Springdale, Ark. Many children were sponsored locally by the late Dr. Charles C. Jones, Marion dentist. They were brought to Marion frequently through the years 1914-1924.

Marion Kiwanians heard a report on development of the amphitheater and nature trail in Central Park at their regular meeting Monday noon.

The MHS football king and queen for 1988 will be crowned Friday. This year’s nominees for king are Chris Sprowls, Robb Hartley, and Eric Thies. Nominees for queen are Charlotte Thies, Shannon Klein, and Robin Summervill.
