A groundbreaking ceremony will take place Saturday for the Didde Catholic Campus Center at Emporia State Teachers College. The library at the center will be dedicated to Msgr. Arthur Tonne of Pilsen.

Wendy Hett, daughter of Rocky and Shirley Jo Hett of Marion, has been awarded the $1,500 Gertrude Devlin Scholarship at Wichita State University.

“Sounds of Autumn,” a fall vocal music concert directed by Steven Zielke, will be performed Thursday in the auditorium at Marion City Building. An art show by students of Jim Versch will be displayed in the lobby.

Sue Henke of Topeka, a native of Lost Springs, was named “1988 Woman of Achievement” Saturday by members of Kansas Press Women. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Henke of Lost Springs, she is publications manager for KPL Gas Service in Topeka.

The 80th birthday of Tillie Hein of Tampa will be celebrated Nov. 6 at an open house in the Catholic hall at Tampa. Hosts will be her children, Dolores Scott of Emporia and Don Srajer of Omaha, Neb., and their families.

Meggan Heigart and her mother, Marty Heigart, of Alma were guests of honor at a “Look Me Over Party” Sunday afternoon. Hostesses were Diana Costello and Jean Case.
