Ghosts, goblins, fairies, and other assorted creatures marched through downtown Marion twice Monday in the annual Bown-Corby Halloween parades. They visited local merchants, some of whom were also in costume, and got a head start on treat collecting.

Marion grade school students who were winners in the Cooperative Grain and Supply’s annual coloring contest include Shannon Hoffer, Tyson Grimmett, Jeanette Rowe, Mandalee Meisner, Bobbie Jo Brewer, Krissy Wilhelm, and Tyrell Becker. Christine Unruh and Jennifer Helmer were morning kindergarten winners.

Polly Ferrell, who now lives in Colby, and a tour bus with 45 EHU members from across the state stopped Monday to visit the Copper Shed. Lucille Hett and members of Happy Circle EHU hosted a coffee break on the Hetts’ patio before the group continued to Wichita for the state convention.

Marion County voters will have questions about hospital expansion, township halls, and an amendment to the Kansas constitution facing them when they go to the polls Tuesday.

Photographs taken by Randy Mills of Florence and Jane Vajnar of Tampa have been selected as finalists in the 1989 Kansas Photography contest sponsored by the Kansas Newspaper Foundation. Each will receive $50 and will compete for the $500 first prize.
