Mark and Colleen Hajek of Marion are members of a rapidly growing group of Kansas farmers who are diversifying with fish. They raise fingerling catfish for pond stocking and will sell larger food fish later this year.

Changes have been started at the Marion County Law Enforcement Center. The jail apartment, former living quarters for the sheriff, is now used as offices for Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and sheriff’s deputies.

Mrs. Forrest Kelsey planned and successfully carried out a surprise party Friday evening honoring the 60th birthday of her husband.

Marion High School’s Queen of Courts candidates for 1989 are Jennifer McLain, Alison Ogden, and Sheri Plenert. Escorts are Eric Pippin, Kelly Linnens, and Andy Hett.

City of Marion commissioners are considering making application for government grant funds to finance needed projects in the community. Projects being considered for finance by a grant include: a new fire station to house the city and county fire vehicles on a lot north of the police station and ambulance garage, an elevator for Marion Municipal Auditorium for handicap access to the basement meeting room, and remodeling the former Santa Fe depot into a suitable community center, thereby expanding space for the city clerk and library.
