Mark Hajek is pictured holding about 5,000 catfish eggs in his hands. Part of the first spawn this summer, they will turn from light to dark as eggs mature prior to hatching in about a week. The Hajeks sell fingerling and pan-sized catfish, as well as minnows raised in ponds at their farm.
Mark Randall, center with the University of Kansas mens’ basketball team, will make a one-day appearance at the Marion Basketball Camp, scheduled for July 17-19 at Marion Gymnasium. Bob Chipman, Washburn University’s head coach, and Steve Henson, Kansas State’s premier guard, will lead the camp all three days.
A group of women from Hilltop Manor took a tour on Thursday to southeast Kansas. The first stop was at the Crayola Factory in Winfield. From there they went to Dexter where they visited Henry’s Candy Factory. Those going were Irene Busch, Ruby Burkholder, Jane Makovec, Ruby Linnens, Fern Bernhardt, Alma Shriver, Maxine Polok, Ruth Dohner, Pearl Thompson, Ruth Perkins, Sally Stack, Ella Winter, Pat Oller, and L.Dena Goertz.
Happy Hustlers 4-H Club of Marion observed 50 years of community activity with a golden anniversary reception held June 11.
Three teachers from Marion, Helen Reznicek, Lois Smith and Margaret Pickering, attended the Mountain-Plains Business Education Assn. conference June 23-24 at Tulsa, Okla.
