There’s a fine little town in northern Marion County. It’s a little town in the basement of the Eldon Henke home built by Henke for his miniature train sets. Henke got started about five years ago, when his daughter, Sue, have him a train as a semi-gag Christmas gift. It since has grown to take over the Henke basement.
Among those in attendance at a reception honoring Gov. Mike Hayden and his wife, Patti, at McPherson Country Club Aug. 20 were Marquetta Eilerts of Peabody and Sarah Powell and Marian Crofoot of Marion. Others present included Sen. Nancy Landon Kassebaum.
Marion High School FFA sweetheart candidates for 1989-1990 are Jenna Hardey, Melanie Kraus, Sara Mills, and Nikki Swift. The crown will be awarded at halftime during Friday’s varsity football game with Remington.
Amy Hett of Marion has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. A 1988 graduate of Marion High School, she is the daughter of Mrs. Keith (Mary) Conyers of Marion.
Heavy rains almost spoiled the Florence Labor Day celebration, but the clouds lifted just in time for the parade to begin. Top entries in the parade were Florence Chamber of Commerce, first; Florence Christian Church, second; and the Florentine Center, third.
