Tara Abbott, daughter of Caleb and Barbara Abbott, will spend next week as state chairman of National High School Activities Week. Abbott was one of 44 Walt Disney World “Dreamers and Doers”, who were selected this past spring. She was the first Kansas student ever picked to participate.

Kristy Herbel and Alan Kruse were named 1989 Homecoming Queen and King at Marion High School’s game Friday against Little River. Last year’s winners, Robin Summervill and Chris Sprowls, also attended.

Margaret Pickering and Helen Reznicek attended a meeting of Delta Pi Epsilon, honorary business education society, in Manhattan Friday.

A family picnic was enjoyed at Norma Hannaford’s Marion County Lake cabin honoring the birthdays of Roger Hannaford III, Gayle Thomas, Florence Slocombe of Peabody, and Shannon Klein of Hutchinson. Gib McCullough of Calimesa, California, also was a guest.

Marion High School class of 1939 gathered Old Settlers’ Day for a 50th anniversary reunion. There were 34 class members, plus spouses and guests, for 62 present at dinner Saturday evening at Stony City Café.

Pictured is Russ Hett, Florence Chamber of Commerce president, as he presents a $2 of profit plaque to Betty Snelling of The Chuckwagon Café. It is the only restaurant in Florence since Town and Country Café shut its doors Oct. 1.
