George Cole of Cedar Point brought what he thought might be a rattlesnake to the newspaper office Friday. Biology professors at Tabor College identified it as a harmless bull snake. Readers are advised that this will not be the first in a Marion County Record Live Critter Derby.

Maude Thompson, longtime teacher in the Marion school system, will observe her birthday Nov. 17 and friends are requesting a card shower in honor of the occasion.

Centre High School’s FFA team earned first place in the nation at the 12th annual Parliamentary Law contest Nov. 7-8 in Carthage, Missouri. Team members are Angie Plett, Jason Stika, Matt Nelson, Spencer Martin, Pam Plett, and Denise Klenda.

Earlene and Willard Hague are pictured showing a wool Nativity scene at the grand opening of Willie’s Woolies, a craft shop they are operating from their home south of Marion. Hundreds of people attended the two-day grand opening Saturday and Sunday.

Leslie Hedstrom won the 4-H “I Dare You” award and Suzie Martin and Robin Summervill were Key Award winners at the annual Marion County Achievement banquet held Nov. 4 at Tabor College, Hillsboro.

Rex Childs, well-known agricultural reporter on KFDI radio, will be the speaker Monday at the annual Farm-City appreciation stag steak fry.
