Even though they were 1989-90 CVL co-champions, 3A Substate Champions, and did not win the 3A boys’ basketball State Tournament, the school will still be listed in the history books. MHS fans, students, and team members received the 1990 State Class A Boys’ Basketball Sportsmanship Award trophy.
A killer tornado swept through Marion County shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday, taking the life of one person east of Goessel. The tornado crossed into Marion County from Hesston to near Goessel. From there it cut a swath northeast across the countryside, leaving downed power lines and farmsteads in shambles. It left Marion County about 7 p.m.
Marion placed five athletes on the Cottonwood Valley League all-league team for boys’ and girls’ basketball. Brenda Bina was named to the second team and Tara Abbott and Kristy Herbel were named to the first team. Mike Helmer and Bill Davis headed the first team for boys’ basketball.
Jerry and Micki Siebert of Cedar Point represented Marion County Farm Bureau as part of a lobbying effort in Washington, D. C., which concentrated on renewing basic provisions of the 1985 farm bill.
Talented Pilsen musician Corky Siebert took the Gold Cup Award at the Kansas Performing Arts Competition Saturday in El Dorado. The competition was for handicapped individuals. Siebert has been blind since birth.
