Missing the main population areas in the county, damage in the rural areas from the March 13 tornado that entered Marion County at its southwest corner and swept a northeast path, ranged from minor damage to complete destruction.

Marion student Bill Davis has been recruited to play five basketball games in mainland China this summer. Davis and 14 other high school and college students were invited through Amateur Sports Development, sponsored by Bethel College. The trip will run from July 3 to 12.

Marion County CROP Walk chairman Galen Penner is pictured presenting a check for $1,523 to Suzanne Thole, representing Marion County Food Bank. The check represents 20 percent of the $7,617 raised from CROP Walks held in Marion, Hillsboro, and Goessel.

Therese Wallman, foreign exchange student from Stockholm, Sweden, was guest speaker at Monday’s Marion Kiwanis Club meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Nason of Wakarusa announce the engagement of their daughter, Raelene Sue, to Allen Ray Makovec, son of Jane C. Makovec and the late Florian J. Makovec.

Marion High School senior Christopher Smith was selected by the faculty as March Student of the Month. Chris plans to attend college and major in engineering. He is the son of Jerry and Lois Smith, Marion.
