City of Marion commissioners met with Kansas Department of Transportation officials last week to ask for permission to install a pedestrian crossing light at the corner of East Main (K-256) and Freeborn.

Jennifer Thole, a senior at Marion High School, has been selected by the faculty as Student of the Month for April. Thole plans to attend the University of Kansas this fall and major in journalism. She is the daughter of Jon and Suzanne Thole, rural Marion.

Earl G. Mueller of Marion, president of Tampa-based Cardie Oil Inc., was elected president of the Kansas Oil Marketers Association at the group’s 75th annual convention March 11-13 in Overland Park.

The Marion boys’ track team won the Hillsboro Quadrangular April 10. Glen Krispense, Reyes Martinez, Thurston Thies, Justin Grimmett, John Wheeler and the relay team of William Teufel, Marty Teufel, Bill Davis, and Martinez were first place winners.

Hazel Pontious and Melanie Druse won the top prizes in the Bowl Down Arthritis fund-raiser held recently at MarBowl Lanes. Bowlers raised $780 in donations to battle the crippling disease. Pontious’ prize was a bicycle donated by Marion True Value Hardware, and Druse won a giant teddy bear donated by Country Critters of Burlington.
