Gordon and Pat Christiansen, rural Durham, were hosts this past week for the Heart of the Flint Hills Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association. The Christiansen ranch marks the halfway point of the caravan’s 100-mile trip from Windom to Council Grove on the Old Santa Fe Trail.
The Burns community was struck by a tornado Thursday, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

Robert Meisinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Meisinger of Marion, will host the General Motors 1989 “Great Sunsations with Mr. Goodwrench” grand travel award trip to Maui, Hawaii. Criteria for winning the host assignment are based on sales. Meisinger achieved #1
rank as top metro district manager west of the Mississippi.
MHS students Chris Hett, Eric Kannady, Sheldon Bina, Matt Brenzikofer and Glenn Krispense attended Boys’ State May 27 to June 2 on the campus of the University of Kansas at Lawrence.
Fred Silhan of the Pilsen community was the first place winner in a statewide contest to promote the use of seat belts. His logo was selected from among all those entered and the design has been incorporated into highway signs.
