Marion Police Department is seeking help in a series of attempted arsons at Central Park Gazebo. The most recent was Thursday when a plastic trash can in the men’s restroom was melted by the force of a fire. Four separate incidents have been recorded in recent weeks. Police officers have a suspect.

Gary and Joella Hett and Jared hosted a party in Central Park Saturday to celebrate Jason’s second birthday.

Several downtown Peabody buildings were damaged Thursday in a fire that began shortly after a powerful thunderstorm moved across the town. A large corner building suffered scorching and damage to the roof, while the second and third buildings lost most of their second stories. Other roofs in the block were damaged.

Marion star basketball player Bill Davis is headed for China July 3-12. Davis, college, and high school teammates will play five basketball games in Canton, Hong Kong and other mainland China cities.

Two Marion County teachers have been honored by long-term teaching service by the University of Kansas School of Education. Dale G. Wingerd of Centre and Mary Jeffrey of Marion each have been teaching more than 25 years. Wingerd and Jeffrey were among 800 teachers and administrators to be recognized.
