Members of the Board of Education of Marion Unified School District met Monday night and agreed that expansion of Marion Elementary School is a top priority issue. They met with an architect and approved tentative plans that would provide 12 classrooms. The building will extend from the north side of the present building, forming an “L” and extend toward the southwest.

Pictured on the front page are Lisa Donahue and Luci Helmer presenting a check for $11,502.27 to Phil Smith, Preserve the Heartland treasurer. The money was raised at the July 8 walk-a-thon to raise money for the group’s fight against the proposed Fort Riley expansion.

Michelle Taylor is heading for Tunisia Oct. 1 to work as an au pair, or nanny, for a family working at the American embassy. Taylor met the family while working in Washington, D. C., at a restaurant.

Candidates for Centre homecoming queen and king are Lynette Hajek, Jenny Peterson, Jennifer Nowak, Jolene Hanschu, Scott Wituk, Jason Stika, Jody Cole, and Jeff Kahns.

The annual bridge marathon sponsored by the tourism committee of Marion Chamber of Commerce will begin in October. Those interested in participating are asked to call Mary Costello by Saturday.
